Dear parents and carers,
As we wrap up another vibrant week here in Chessington, I find myself sitting in my office feeling an immense sense of gratitude. Being the Headteacher of Ellingham is a privilege I never take for granted; the energy, kindness, and ambition our children show every day truly make this the best job in Kingston!
I always love seeing year groups getting ready to go on a school trip. I know the planning and preparation that goes into every excursion, from forming ideas of visits when curriculum planning, through to organising the day itself. There is a lot of detailed work behind the scenes, and I want to thank all the staff that make these trips happen. I also want to thank you, parents and carers, for accompanying us on these excursions. Without your presence, many of them would not go ahead. Seeing the buzz and excitement in the children when they return reminds us of the wonderful memories we are making for them, so thank you, all of you.
Finally, Year 6..... You and your teaching team have worked so hard for this moment! It's the final weekend before SATs, and I am so proud of each and every one of you for the diligence and commitment you have shown to your learning and achievement. This is your moment and your time to shine! So rest and sleep well this weekend. Put any worries you have in the palm of your hand and blow them into the breeze like dandelion seeds because you don't need them - you've got this! I can't wait to see you at the breakfast table on Monday morning at 8.15am.
And to the Year 6 teaching team, I wish you such a well-deserved rest this weekend. Know how much skill and care you have given your pupils to equip them academically and pastorally for this primary milestone.
Take care, everyone. Have a great weekend.
Best wishes,
Margaret

Year 6 Wellbeing Ambassadors took great pride in planning and leading a thoughtful whole school assembly focused on the theme of ‘Belonging’. They worked collaboratively to create an inclusive message, ensuring that every child felt represented and valued. They involved children who speak different languages, celebrating our school community. During the assembly they spoke with confidence and clarity. An amazing assembly- well done girls!
A huge well done to our Year 5 and 6 boys who competed in the District Cup Quarter-Finals this week. In what was arguably the most thrilling game of the season, the boys showed incredible grit and teamwork to finish the match in a 2-2 draw.
The game was a real roller-coaster, with our players showing fantastic resilience to come back and level the scoring. Unfortunately, the drama of a penalty shootout didn't go our way this time, and the boys narrowly missed out on a spot in the semis. While the result is tough to take, we couldn't be prouder of their sportsmanship and the way they represented the school right until the final whistle.
Heads up, boys—you played a brilliant game!
Take part in this week’s battle for your chance to be on the leaderboard.
TTRS - The results are in!
Well done to 4G, 4RS and 5CS for being at the top of the leaderboard this week - Year 4 are clearly hard at work preparing for their upcoming multiplication check! 🙂
Congratulations to Nancy M, Sara and Marley B for coming in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place!
This week’s battle is Boys vs Girls! Make sure to take part and help out your team.

In Nursery we have Star Club every morning, we read numbers and sign the register and then we have What’s in the box? Today we were using balancing scales and finding out what was heavier than a banana.
Reception have loved building with the large wooden blocks in the outdoor area this week, using their creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills. We have even had the Eiffel Tower and Big Ben recreated!
The children in Year 1 have been hard at work practicing for their assembly next week. Maple Class can’t wait to share all they have learnt about castles with their parents and carers.
Year 2 have been reading the book ‘The Queen’s Hat’ and basing our writing on this. We followed where the Queen’s hat blew to, and then , for our independent write, decided that it would end up at Ellingham Primary School! This week we wrote our own endings of the story, and then edited and published them.
Year 3 have been working on a data and information topic in computing this half term. In pairs, they structured a branching database using yes/no questions to sort a group of animals before moving onto the Chromebooks to make a digital version using ‘J2E data’.
This week, Year 4 took their Geography learning to new levels. To bring our Rivers unit to life, our young explorers swapped pens for modeling clay to build their very own river systems. From the steep rush of mountain streams to the winding curves of valleys, the children didn't just learn the vocabulary—they built it. It was creative, and a brilliant way to see exactly how water shapes our world.
Year 5 have scaled new heights this week, exploring how different styles transform a landscape. After last week’s study of Nicholas Roerich, where they used soft blending and moody blues to capture the "spiritual glow" of the Himalayas, the children pivoted to the contemporary work of Elyse Dodge.
The contrast was striking: moving from Roerich’s ethereal, fluid brushwork to Dodge’s sharp, "low-poly" geometric precision. Students deconstructed mountain ranges into vibrant polygons, trading misty shadows for bold gradients. It has been a brilliant exercise in seeing the world through two distinct lenses—one mystical and one mathematical!
Our Year 6 classrooms have been buzzing with energy this week as the children gear up for the upcoming SATs. Far from the usual quiet study, the atmosphere has been electric with friendly competition and collaborative learning as they have been playing revision games and even becoming the teacher to correct maths mistakes!
We are incredibly proud of their hard work and positive attitudes—we know they will all be amazing next week.
This week our value was Inspiration.
This is the full safeguarding team in school. They are all trained to Level 3 and everyone in the school received the annual update of Safeguarding Level 2 training at INSET. If you are worried about a child, please let one of the team know.
