Dear Parents and Carers,
It's been another busy week at school!
There have been two trips out this week and I am incredibly proud of the excellent behaviour and the wonderful way our children represented our school. The staff who accompanied them reported that the children were curious, engaged, and a joy to take out!
The FOE have been working hard to organise the Winter Fair and we are looking forward to seeing many of you tomorrow, Saturday, 29th from 12-3pm. It's set to be a fantastic event and a wonderful opportunity for our school community to come together.
This week has been Parliament week, and the children had a very fun way to experience voting and ballot boxes! The School Council decided on three events we could have at Ellingham - (i) a Talent Show, (ii) a Pyjama Day, and (iii) a Mix-up Wet Play. All children voted using ballot papers posted into ballot boxes. The winner was.............
Pyjama Day! Thank you to Mrs Winn and the School Council for organising this. Watch this space for Pyjama Day.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. I wish you a wonderful weekend.
Warm regards,
Margaret

Year 2 - 6 times table battle starts Friday 28th Nov 3pm and ends Thursday 4th Dec 7am. Which class will be the champions?
Thank you to everyone who visited the book fair last week. Your purchases raised over £500 for the school to purchase new books.
We are incredibly proud of our Year 4, 5, and 6 athletes who represented the school at the Sports Athletics tournament this week. Competing in a tough field of 14 schools, our team gave their all in events including the speed bounce, long jump, and various running races. Their hard work and team spirit truly paid off, as they secured a fantastic 3rd place finish overall. A huge well done to everyone involved for this outstanding achievement!
Nursery have been making puzzles this week, which helps develop our spatial awareness and hand-eye coordination.
Cherry Class received an unusual letter this week - from the moon! We then designed our own rockets and spaceships. We also read ‘The Way Back Home’ and talked about what it would be like to visit the moon.
Year 1 went on a walk this week to explore our local area. Our Geography topic is ‘Where is Our School?’ so the children were excited to find out what is close to Ellingham and some even spotted their own houses!
In computing, Year 3 have set up Scratch accounts and started to develop their coding skills using this new programming software. They have explored different sprites and backgrounds, and begun to sequence commands using motion blocks. Zoe has even been practising at home! Here’s the link if your child would like to have a go at home too: scratch.mit.edu
Oak Class have been doing lots of practical work this week to help them see subtraction in terms of the difference between two numbers. They worked in pairs and used lots of different ways to help them calculate the difference.
Who put the glad in gladiator? Yes Year 4! This week, Year 4 left Earth behind and ascended to Mount Olympus! this week, Year 4 plunged into the dramatic world of Ancient Greek religion! The class challenge was to select one god or goddess and bring their personality to life! The children had great fun designing and creating amazing masks, complete with symbols and colours that tell the god's story. They then wrote a fascinating piece about their chosen being.
Year 5 finally concluded their DT projects this week by building their bridges across the Drake Passage (an area between the bottom of South America and Antarctica). They used cardboard boxes, lolly pop sticks and LOTS of masking tape to create them.
Year 6 plunged into history with an immersive Homefront Day, exploring the incredible efforts made in Britain during World War II. They became expert teachers, researching an aspect of the Homefront and using Google Slides to teach their classmates. Their cooking skills were put to the test as they made delicious potato and cheese dumplings (and chips from the skins!). In the afternoon, they designed and constructed their own miniature Anderson shelters. Throughout the day Year 6 also considered the practicalities of wartime life, exploring strategies for blacking out our classrooms and carefully creating rationed recipes for our fictional wartime families. Whenever the air raid siren went off, they had to protect themselves under the tables! It was a brilliant day of hands-on learning, and the children had so much fun stepping back in time!
The Mental Health Support Team (MHST) is an early intervention and prevention service that helps children and young people aged 5 to 18 in Kingston and Richmond schools with mild to moderate mental health difficulties like anxiety, low mood, and common behavioural issues.
The team consists of psychological professionals, including clinical leads, creative therapists, mental health practitioners, and education wellbeing practitioners.
This is the full safeguarding team in school. They are all trained to Level 3 and everyone in the school received the annual update of Safeguarding Level 2 training at INSET. If you are worried about a child, please let one of the team know.
