ELLINGHAM SCHOOL NEWS

New Art Club

We are planning a brand new art club after half term, starting Monday 11th November.  It will be run by Samantha Birch, who was a secondary school Art & Design teacher for nine years but now runs a successful club at a school in Surrey three evenings a week.

Please see Samantha's introduction below and how to contact her to book the club.

"I’d like to share a bit about my journey in art education! After nine years as a secondary Art & Design Teacher, I started my own after-school Art & Crafts Club at a local primary school. Over the past six years, this club has grown in popularity, and I now run sessions three evenings a week, welcoming children of all ages and abilities.

I’m excited to launch a new after-school Art & Crafts Club here at Ellingham Primary School! This club will be a space for creativity, exploration, and collaboration, where students can express themselves and develop their artistic skills in a fun, supportive environment.

The Art & Crafts Club will feature a diverse range of projects and techniques, from painting and drawing to sculpture and mixed media. Each session will encourage students to explore their creativity while learning new skills and experimenting with different materials. I’m thrilled to guide them on this artistic journey and watch their unique visions come to life!"

LEARNING TOGETHER

Reception Celebrate Autumn

Reception have been learning an autumn poem called 'Leaves are falling.'

Year 1 Making Maths!

Year 1 got crafty this week as they made paper chains to represent the number bonds to 10. How many ways can you make 10?

Year 2 Get the Habit for Habitats

Year 2 have been learning about habitats in science, and we went on a walk around the school grounds looking at microhabitats. We spotted lots of minibeasts, including worms, spiders, flies and ants.

Year 4 Explorers

This week, Year 4 explored our garden space for invertebrates. When they discovered an insect, annelid or arachnid they were unsure about, they used a classification key to name it.

Living Stone Age Drama in Year 3

Year 3 are enjoying our Stone Age topic.  This week we thought about the jobs that Stone Age people would have done and freeze framed.  Jobs include: cooking stew, looking after children, preparing fish, smoking fish, barbequing meat, sharpening flint, making fire, making weapons (arrows, spears, harpoons or axes), plaiting string & weaving baskets.

Very Cool Year 5s

We have had an engaging first few weeks in year 5!  We have particularly enjoyed learning about conductors and insulators in science. We completed an experiment last week to see which material would be best to keep food cool in a lunch box. Ask us what thermal conductors and  insulators are!

We have also been studying the work of Anni Albers in DT and we are looking forward to using her work as inspiration when weaving Viking sails later in the term

Year 6 Problem-Solving Scientists

Year 6 have enjoyed getting practical in their science lessons. They investigated simple circuits and applied their new knowledge to problem-solve and fix faulty circuits!

SAFEGUARDING, HEALTH AND SUPPORT

Primary Mental Health Conference

On Wednesday at 18th September, Mrs Sephton and the Year 6 Wellbeing Ambassadors headed off to Southborough School to take part in the Primary Mental Health Conference.  The morning involved lots of fun activities including the hoop game, kindness game and completing an action plan.  The Year 6 ambassadors are planning to lead a wellbeing assembly and many more things!  The ambassadors were superb company and a real credit to Ellingham.

This is the full safeguarding team in school. They are all trained to Level 3 and everyone in the school received the annual update of Safeguarding Level 2 training at INSET.

Contact details: 020 8397 3864 or email: office@elp.rbksch.org to request a safeguarding call back. For pupil support, contact 020 8397 3864 or email: pupilsupport@elp.rbksch.org
