Dear parents and carers,
It has been another wonderfully vibrant week of learning both inside and outside the classroom. Our pupils have benefited from fantastic educational visits that truly bring our curriculum to life.
Our youngest learners in Reception enjoyed a magical day at the farm, returning to school buzzing with stories, full of awe and wonder at the animals they met. Meanwhile, Year 4 took an exciting trip to the South Bank, where they were thrilled to see iconic London landmarks in real life as part of their history studies. These experiences are invaluable for building confidence and curiosity, and I must extend a huge thank you to the staff and parent volunteers who made them possible.
Following these adventures, our Year 1 pupils treated us to a spectacular class assembly all about castles. They confidently spoke about their new knowledge and displayed their artwork. I was immensely proud to witness their developing oracy skills, something Ellingham is working hard and expertly towards building in all our pupils.
At Ellingham we pride ourselves on our strong relationship with our local community. Recently, however, residents have raised serious concerns regarding vehicles parking on zigzag lines, double yellow lines, and across private driveways particularly at the Ellingham Road entrance.
We want every child to feel safe scooting, cycling or walking to our gates. Please ensure you are using designated parking areas, are aware of pedestrians and being considerate to our neighbours. Please help us to keep your children safe coming to school.
Best wishes,
Margaret

A big shout out to Year 6 for their excellent attendance during SATS week.
A huge well done to the boys for winning this week’s Boys vs Girls battle.
Congratulations to Saarthak, Emira and Olivia M for topping the leaderboard this week.
This week there is a whole school battle so make sure you take part to be in with a chance of winning!
Enjoy a delicious, Shakshuka Traybake Crunch that serves 4-5 people , featuring spiced tomatoes, beans, and eggs topped with a satisfyingly crispy bread crumble.
If you can help at the Summer Fair email: friendsofellingham@outlook.com or contact the school office.
We can only run these events if we have the support of volunteers - Thank you in advance.

This week Nursery have been practicing scooping and filling and as they have been reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar they scooped the food into the caterpillar’s mouth. Ask your nursery child what food the caterpillar ate?
Cherry Class had a fantastic time on our trip to Bockett’s Farm. We went on a tractor ride, watched a pig race, fed the animals, and learned so much about life on the farm. The children were brilliant representatives of Ellingham and made us all very proud!
Year 1 travelled back in time this week for their History experience Castle Day. The children had fun making and painting their own cardboard shield, building model castles and performing their class assembly to KS2.
This week in our History lessons, year 2 were learning all about life inside a castle. They role played as some of the key people who lived in a castle: king, queen, servant and jester. The children created a still image showing how these people would have lived together.
This week Year 3 have been learning about column subtraction in maths. First, we used practical resources to practise the new skill of ‘exchanging’ tens to ones or hundreds to tens. Then, we had a go at writing the algorithm on our whiteboards and showing our working out.
On Friday, 8th May, our intrepid Year 4 explorers swapped their classrooms for the historic banks of the River Thames. It was a day of discovery and sightseeing as we set out to find the iconic landmarks we’ve been studying in class. Armed with knowledge and a keen eye for detail, the children navigated the bustling South Bank, spotting some of the world’s most famous sights.
Our "Big City" Discoveries:
The Houses of Parliament, The London Eye, The Southbank Centre, St Paul’s Cathedral, The Globe Theatre, the iconic London Bridge and many more.
As always, a massive thank you to all our lovely volunteers who gave up their precious time so that the children could have a successful trip.
A massive congratulations to our Year 6 children for completing their KS2 SATs this week. We are incredibly proud of every single one of them!
Throughout the week, they wowed us with their resilience and positive attitudes. It was wonderful to see them enjoying their morning SATs breakfast; starting the day with friends truly helped them shine.
A Huge Thank You
This week couldn't have happened without our amazing team. A huge thank you to all the adults who helped the week run smoothly. We are particularly grateful to Mrs Pakes, Mrs Peters and Mrs Freer, who returned to school especially to support the children!
The tests are over and the fun is just beginning! We are now diving straight into auditions and rehearsals for our end-of-year production…..
This is the full safeguarding team in school. They are all trained to Level 3 and everyone in the school received the annual update of Safeguarding Level 2 training at INSET. If you are worried about a child, please let one of the team know.
