ELLINGHAM SCHOOL NEWS
A Victorian Spectacle: Year 6 Assembly
Year 6 children delighted their families today with an amazing assembly relaying some of the historic from Victorian times. They explained about the poverty and life experiences that some children had to suffer in those days but also shone a light (via Thomas Edison) on the wonders of the Industrial Revolution. It was lovely to watch and their singing was stunning.

Year 6 Junior Roadwatch
Year 6 children took to the streets to understand how the police help to ensure drivers and pedestrians are safe.
On Wednesday morning local police officers visited us and we got to use speed guns to check the speed of cars in the area. We were able to talk to someone who went over the speed limit. Some of the questions we asked were: Are you aware of what you were doing? Was there something that distracted you and what was it?
- Finley
The funniest moment was when the police told us that someone went 87 miles per hour just because he didn't want his burger to get cold!
- Angelica
My favourite part of the day was going into the police car because we got to turn on the blue lights and we got to sit in the driver's seat!
- Lily
It was a really fun experience and the first time I've done something like that. It taught me to never speed and to take care of our community.
- Daniel
Travel Stars
Well done to everyone at Ellingham for a magnificent effort in improving our walk, scoot and cycle to school efforts. As a result, we were awarded the Bronze Award.
We're not stopping there though! This year we are aiming for the Silver Award. Our Junior Roadwatch counts towards this and we are looking forward to some more initiatives on how we can keep ourselves and our road and pavement environment safe and healthy.
LEARNING TOGETHER
Nursery and the Three Bears
As part of our Number of the Week, which focuses on the number 3, we have been looking at the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We have told the story using props, sorted objects into small, medium and large, and have made some porridge. The children helped to mixed up the oats with the milk before cooking them in the microwave. The children then tried some; some of them said it was too hot, some said it was just right and some said NO THANK YOU!
We are Mathematicians in Reception
This week we have been ordering numbers to 10. Here is our autumn number line.
Year 1 Family Trees
Year 1 have been learning all about timelines and how things have changed over time. They explored their relatives and how they are all connected by making their very own family trees
Year 2 Examine Local History
On Thursday, Year 2 visited Kingston by bus to see some of the places we have learnt about in our History topic - our local area.
We saw the Coronation Stone and the market place as well as the Clattern Bridge and Guildhall doorway.
We had a brilliant time!
Art from Nature in Year 3
This half term, Year 3 children have been taking inspiration from the work of Andy Goldsworthy.
Take a look at our environmental sculptures made with natural materials found in autumn.
Year 5 Weavers
Year 5 have been weaving our Viking sails today. We have had so much fun! Take a look at our progress so far.
Natural Historians: Year 4
On Thursday 3rd October, Year 4 travelled to the Natural History Museum to support their science topic of classification. The children have been learning all about animal characteristics and how to use classification keys. While we were there, we saw amphibians, insects, mammals, fish, birds, arachnids, arthropods and even discovered whether the dinosaurs were vertebrates or invertebrates.
Everyone had a brilliant day and we are so grateful to the parent helpers.
SAFEGUARDING, HEALTH AND SUPPORT
Wellbeing Ambassadors Take Over Assembly
This Wednesday our Year 6 Wellbeing Ambassadors led an exciting assembly. They spoke confidently and asked many thought provoking questions.
They described different scenarios and asked children to place the gingerbread man on an emotion scale from 1 to 10. All children were engaged and listened carefully.
They ended with an important message:
JUST BREATHE
You are strong enough to handle your challenges,
Wise enough to find a solution to your problems,
And capable enough to do whatever needs to be done

This is the full safeguarding team in school. They are all trained to Level 3 and everyone in the school received the annual update of Safeguarding Level 2 training at INSET.
