Nursery
Welcome to Ellingham Nursery
Children love to play, learn and thrive in our indoor and outside environments and our caring, experienced team ensure that they flourish.
The happiness of our children is key to our ethos. We want our children to have a happy and positive start to their school life and build a foundation for a love of learning. Our curriculum caters for the needs of individual children and we believe every child should reach their full, unique potential. We ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. We work with families to achieve the best for their children and have a team to support families if they need help in any way.
We enable each child to develop socially, physically, intellectually and emotionally. We encourage children to develop independence within a secure and friendly atmosphere and support children in building relationships through the development of social skills such as cooperation and sharing. We are attuned to identify early whether a child will need a bit of extra support and access other professionals to help school and families with this.

Children learn through :
Playing and exploring – children investigate and experience things.
Active learning – children concentrate, keep on trying if they encounter difficulties and enjoy their achievements.
Creating and thinking critically – children have and develop their own ideas, make links between ideas, and develop strategies for doing things.
Working together with parents
We believe that working with parents is vital in ensuring the children are happy at Nursery and reach their full potential.
In addition to two parents evenings during the year parents or carers are always welcome to talk to Nursery staff at the start and end of sessions or make an appointment to speak to them at an alternative time.
When your child joins Nursery you will be given access to an online app called Tapestry
Whilst your child is in Nursery we collect observations to help us assess their development and to inform our planning.
We use an online app called Tapestry to record photos and written comments about your child's learning. Parents can access the journal by downloading it onto their phone, tablet or computer. It enables us to share photos, videos and comments with parents on a weekly basis and enable parents to to contribute to your child’s journal making the assessment process a shared record.
Further information about Tapestry can be found here. When your child joins the school you will be given a login.
