ELLINGHAM SCHOOL NEWS

Enjoy the Half-Term

We wish you all a relaxing and fun half-term break.  The children have once again been marvellous learners and we are all so proud of them.

Remember that school will be closed on Monday 4th November for INSET but we are looking forward to welcoming the children back on Tuesday 5th November.

Spooktacular Disco

The children had a great evening last Friday at the Spooky Disco. There were some amazing costumes and fantastic dancing. Thank you to all the volunteers and staff who helped make it a success and a special thank you to Vicky McQuillan for organising it.

Friends of Ellingham Saved!

A big thank you to everyone who has volunteered to support the FOE to fundraise for the school and signed up to help at various events during parents evening.  If you missed Mrs Pakes and the sign-up sheets, just catch any of us at another point.  We're always happy for more helpers.

A special thank you to Jo Connolly & Louise Soons, who have agreed to be Co-Chairs, Agnieszka Gerald, agreed as Secretary and Carlie Stevens & Jennifer Twomey, who will be Co-Treasurers with Vicky McQuillan until February 2025 when Vicky will standdown from the role.

We look forward to working with the new committee, who are already planning events for the children and families at Ellingham.  Watch out for the Christmas plans.

Look out for further information coming out soon!

LEARNING TOGETHER

Year 2  Artists

Year 2 have been sketching minibeasts and using watercolours to paint them. We then made our own clay minibeasts, using tools to add details.

Year 4  Designers

Year 4 finished their DT unit by creating money containers according to the design brief they were given at the start of term. The children utilised all of their new learning and worked incredibly hard to make some very stylish purses and wallets.

Year 4 Explore Ecological Balance

Year 4  visited Sir Francis Barker Recreational Ground to have fun and enjoy the wide green spaces but also to examine and think about the impact of human usage on animal habitats.

A serious topic to build critical thinking skills but taught with lots of fun.

Year 6 Excel at STEM

On Wednesday morning Year 6 visited Chessington School for an exciting morning of practical science to consolidate their learning from this term. They were able to apply their skills to fix circuits and used buzzers to communicate in morse code!

The children really were fantastic ambassadors for our school and impressed the high school teachers with their scientific vocabulary, explanations and resilience when problem-solving!  The teacher who led the session said that they had great knowledge and were awesome.  We are so proud of them.

On Thursday we had a DT day. The children used their electricity knowledge to design and make their own electrical boardgames!
