Dear Parents and carers,
At Ellingham, we use the Zones of Regulation to help us recognise our emotions and responses. It can be hard for children (and adults) to know why their heart is beating faster or why they feel cross when asked a seemingly simple question. Being able to identfy feelings of worry, for example, or recognising that we feel a sense of injustice, can help us regulate and reason. All practitioners at Ellingham will help children make adaptations when they feel out of the Green zone, for example take a movement break or have a snack.
On Friday after school, as I sat at my desk and felt my eyes stinging a little and that everything was taking a little longer, I recognised that I was feeling Blue (tired). I rationalised that parents and carers wouldn't mind if I allowed myself to make my own adaptation by giving myself a screen break. So as I sit here on Sunday morning writing the newsletter, bright eyed and bushy tailed, I feel sure you will forgive me for the delay.
On Monday morning, as both pupils and staff come to school maybe having stayed up late / woken up early to watch the England vs Mexico game, please rest assured we will be making adaptations! Monday morning will be a sloooowww start. So don't be tempted to stay at home! Please, please, please, please, please bring your children to school at normal time.
Have a wonderful rest of the weekend.
Best wishes,
Margaret

Congratulations to 3BP and 5S who both had the highest class attendance again this week of 95.9%.
Well done to this week’s winners 3BP with 5CS and 4RS in 2nd and 3rd place!
Well done to this week’s top 3 players - Tosia, Imogen and Elodie!
There will be an ultimate end of year battle for the next 2 weeks! Who will be the final champions this year? Be sure to take part for your chance of topping the leaderboard.
This week, the value was Determination. Unfortunately, litter has increased around the school, so we spoke of our determination to be vigilant with our snacks, and respectful of those who have to clear the litter from the hall and playground on our behalf.
The Summer Fair last weekend was such a success! If you came and you bought something, you will have contributed to the next project for the school: Vegetable Boxes!!
As a result of the fundraising Friends of Ellingham have organised, this academic year alone the school has been able to install a new projector in the hall and update the sound system, both of which have made an enormous difference to our assemblies and parent presentations. Funding is now being used to purchase an iPad for each classroom for higher-quality photos and apps to enhance teaching and learning, and our future plans are to compliemnt the upcoming sensory gardens with an area to grow fruit and vegetables. This funding has made a very real difference to the experiences of your children in the school, there is no question of this. We are grateful to FOE for all the time they take in organising these events, from ordering to setting up and clearing down.
But there remains just a very few handful of parents who volunteer to help on the day. These parents work full-time throughout the week, but are giving us their evenings and weekends, too. Looking ahead to next academic year, I would really love all of you to think, which one fundraising event could I help with? Could it be the Spooky Disco, the Winter Fair, or the Love Ellingam Valentine's cake sale? Their email address is below. Get in touch with them! Thank you.
This week the children got creative with the magnetic building blocks, they made ice lollies and homes for tiny sea creatures.
Ahoy there! This week Cherry Class have loved making their own pirate maps, and hunting for treasure. Their imagination has been incredible and they have used fantastic vocabulary when sharing their maps with their friends.
Salad tasting! Year 1 had their mouths full in DT this week as they tasted different vegetables and salads. The couscous was described as slimy but delicious!
Year 2 has been learning all about the United Kingdom in geography. This week we used our map skills to find the names of the seas and oceans that surround the UK, and then located the major rivers. One child said “This was the best lesson ever!”
As one of our experience activities in English, Year 3 learnt about the different types of Roman gladiators. To fully embrace the role, they made their own javelins and tested these 'weapons' in the playground. Hopefully they will be able to include all this knowledge in their historical diary entries over the next few weeks.
This week, Year 4 enjoyed an exciting excursion to Hook Library! The children were treated to a wonderful story read by the library team and learned all about the upcoming Summer Reading Challenge. It’s a fantastic way to keep reading fun over the break—to find out more, follow this link or pop into the library starting from the 4th of July!
This is the full safeguarding team in school. They are all trained to Level 3 and everyone in the school received the annual update of Safeguarding Level 2 training at INSET. If you are worried about a child, please let one of the team know.
