Children come back to school
Children had the most wonderful lead up to our Easter break with special events laid on by Friends of Ellingham. Children l(and staff) loved the Hopathon and certainly took up the challenge. It's incredibly difficult to hop just for a couple of minutes!
On Wednesday and Thursday, everyone got the opportunity to visit the Hop 'n' Shop sale. The Easter bunny visited every classroom and spread the joy of chocolate. Children guessed the number of eggs in the box and had their prizes awarded today in assembly.
The last two weeks we have been taking part in the big walk and wheel. Well done to all those children who came in last week with blinged up bikes, sparkled scooters and came in with funky feet.
Year 1 are the winners of some extra playtime. They were actually the winning class last year when in Reception so ones to beat! https://bigwalkandwheel.org.uk/schools/7/profile- This is our school page
Eating healthily was also part of this drive and the children were sent home with eat them to defeat them packs. We hope these have been helping them to try new vegetables. During lunch time they have been giving out stickers to children who have been trying and eating their vegetables.
The children taking part in the mini marathon have now got some lovely Team Ellingham t-shirts. Please find the link here. https://gofund.me/a349d534
Go Team Ellingham 💙💙💙

Congratulations to Isabel (Y6), Fernando (Y5) and Eliza (Y2) for their artwork inspired by Picasso.
April Artist of the Month is Stephen Wiltshire
Well done to Orla (Y1) and Rosie (Y3). Their posters promoting STEM were amazing.
For the third time in a row 4CS won the Times Table Rock Stars battle and Eden was the winner in all three weeks. What super Rock Stars!
The next event is over the Easter break - get battling now!
In Nursery we are taking part in the national toothbrushing scheme where they brush their teeth in school. They have all been really enjoying taking part and its had been helping some children with brushing their teeth at home.
The children went on an egg hunt this week in the garden trying to find the egg with their initial letter. All of them were able to find it.
After half term Nursery will be learning about people who help us and we are looking for some visitors to come and talk to the children. If you work as a nurse, paramedic, fire fighter, postman, dentist and would be willing to come dressed in your uniform and talk to the children about what you do please get in touch with Mrs Kingshott or the office.
Year 1 finished reading Grandad's Island this week and enjoyed the story so much! The children watched a step by step video and followed the instructions to draw their very own Grandad - take a look at their amazing drawings outside Maple Class.
The children also got crafty on Friday to create some lovely Mother's Day cards for their very lucky mummies!
This half term, Year 1 have explored fruits and vegetables and their seasonality. The children tasted different salads and designed their own. This week they got slicing and dicing and enjoyed their healthy dishes!
Year 3 have been answering the question 'How do festivals and family life show what matters to Jewish People?' We reflected on the festival of Rosh Hashanah and the importance of asking for forgiveness. We also tasted apple, honey and Challah bread to understand how these food are eaten as part of the celebration in the act of asking for repentance ahead of the New Year.
To celebrate Easter, Year 2 and 4 spent time making and decorating Easter baskets. We also got visited by the Easter bunny so we hope our baskets get filled with some chocolate!
On Thursday we welcomed Anne Pearman and Greg Emfietzis, co-managers of Kingston Music Service, to lead an assembly. Greg got six children to play a violin while the rest of us joined in by adding the beat. They did so well in such a short space of time. Equally impressive were the 3BP Ukulele Orchestra, who, after ten weeks of Anne's lessons, were able to treat the school to a rendition of 'Roar'. 3G are now really eager to have their lessons after Easter and hopefully will be able to play something to the school at the end of term.
The children had an amazing time. They created their own pizzas, which we ate in Ellingham's own pizzeria. They had a treasure hunt through the empty school and played games in the playground in the dark. Such fun!
Year 5 have been testing different forces over the last few weeks. We have learnt about gravity, air resistance, water resistance and buoyancy. We have had a lot of fun!
Year 6 enjoyed a practical maths lesson, investigating angles. They learnt how to use protractors to measure angles and found out that vertically opposite angles are always equal!
The children have loved getting hands-on in science this week as part of their Light topic. They investigated refraction and found out why a straw looks broken when viewed through a glass of water. They also set up an enquiry to find out if the size of the shadow is affected by the distance of the light source from an object. They used many scientific skills such as measuring accurately, recording data, interpreting their results and evaluating the effectiveness of their investigation.
Our sporting champions have taken part in more sports competitions.
This week we played in a friendly netball tournament against Castle Hill. All the children played brilliantly and had lots of fun! Out of the five games that they played they won 2, lost 2 and drew 1.
Our Tag Rugby team got to the finals having won all of their games but alas it was not to be. nNxt time!
It is really important to put safeguards in place to protect your children so that they are safe online. Children need to feel comfortable and confident if they have any worries about what they are seeing and who they are talking to online.
There are age limits on games and social media sites for a reason - because they can influence and frighten children in a harmful way. Please adhere to these as we are seeing more children mimicking computer games with play-fighting which quickly turns into more physical and upsetting play.
NSPCC has a new Techosaurus, an online safety dinosaur aimed at talking positively about on-line safety.
Your Healthcare’s Children's Speech and Language Team has introduced a new approach to supporting families by relaunching their Facebook page and Instagram account, with a programme of topical content for families with children who have speech, language and communication needs and/or swallowing needs. The social media pages are designed to serve as a virtual support system, offering tips, resources, personalised and original content and a platform for connection among families experiencing similar challenges.

This is the full safeguarding team in school. They are all trained to Level 3 and everyone in the school received the annual update of Safeguarding Level 2 training at INSET. If you are worried about a child, please let one of the team know.
