Dear Parents and Carers,
What another full week of events we have had. The week began with many of us wearing Odd Socks demonstrating our uniqueness for the start of Anti-Bullying Week. The theme this year has been 'Power for Good' as we learned we all have the power to change things for the better. We have the power to speak up when we see something unkind happening, to include someone who is being left out and to tell a trusted adult – like a teacher, parent, or family member – if we or someone we know is being bullied. When we see bullying and stay silent, it helps the bullying grow. But when we use our 'power', we can stop it!
On Tuesday 11th, we remembered those who have made great sacrifices for our freedoms by observing a two minute silence for Remembrance Day. I spoke to the children about the core British values of democracy and individual liberty as we remember those in the past who lost their lives to protect our futures.
Thank you to the Early Years' Team who conducted three phonics and maths workshops this week. It was great to see our reception parents attend and learn all about early reading and maths.
Looking ahead, we are excitedly working with Friend's of Ellingham to facilitate their great work in planning Ellingham's Winter Wonderland Fair on the 29th! Thank you to all the parents and carers who donated sweets this week. We are honoured that Santa will be visiting, and there will be an Elfridges store to buy your Christmas gifts! Don't forget to book your slot for these events on Arbor.
Take care, and I wish you all a wonderful weekend.
Warm regards,
Margaret

Thank you to all the reception parents who attended the workshops this week. Understanding how children learn early sounds and number is invaluable and enhances our we engage with children when reading and investigating. We hope you found the sessions useful and feel equipped to support your children in learning to read. WE hope you enjoy the packs that your child brought home today.
Mrs. Clune first joined the school as a Lunchtime Supervisor. In recent years, she worked as part of the Explorers afterschool team.
We'd like to thank Mrs. Clune for her commitment to the school community and wish her well as she moves on to spend more time at home with her family.
We’re so excited for our Winter Wonderland Fair on Saturday 29th November (12-3pm) - it’s set to be a full of festive afternoon for the whole family to enjoy.

✨ New for this year - “Elfridges”
We’re thrilled to introduce Elfridges, a magical pop up shop where children can experience the joy of giving!
Here’s how it works:
You pre-pay £3.50 per gift and your child will visit Elfridges at any time during the fair.
They’ll choose a special present, bag it up, write their own label, take it home and pop it under the tree, ready to surprise a family member on Christmas morning. Please note these are adult presents only 😃
🎄 Bookings for both Santa’s Grotto and Elfridges will be available to book via the Arbor app from 5pm today, Friday, 14th November. Please note booking for both events will close at 3pm on Friday, 21st November.

Did you know there's a fantastic way to potentially double the funds we raise for our school, simply by tapping into resources many of us already have access to? It's called matched funding, and it's a game-changer for PTAs like ours!
Please read the letter here for further information.
This weeks recipe box is for Smokey Sausage Stew we hope Year 4 enjoy cooking it this weekend. The recipes are below if anyone else would like to cook it.

This week's value has been Friendship.
We started the week with an assembly and workshops the author Mrs P focusing on her newest book, Jessie and JoJo.
The sessions were a wonderful opportunity for the children to discuss two very important topics: managing worries and nurturing friendships.
Mrs P helped the students explore positive strategies for dealing with big feelings and reinforced how important it is to be a supportive and kind friend. The children learned that:
Talking Helps: If you have a worry, sharing it with a trusted adult or a good friend is the first step.
Friendship Power: True friends support each other and make each other feel safe and happy.
Being an 'Upstander': We can all help prevent bullying by standing up for others and being actively kind.
Many of our students were thrilled to receive their copies of Jessie and JoJo, signed personally by Mrs P!
We are proud to share that, through the purchase of these books, we helped Mrs P raise funds for her chosen charities: NSPCC (UK) and Wires (Australia). Thank you to all the families who supported this important cause!
This month’s artist is Banksy and the closing date is Friday 28th November. Thank you to those who have already entered. We can’t wait to see more creative entries.
Who can catch the wind?
Pear Class had great, gross-motor, fun trying to catch the wind with multi-coloured scarves.
Cherry Class learned why people wear poppies on Remembrance Day. We talked about bravery and what we are thankful for. The children then made some beautiful poppies using lolly sticks, cupcake cases and buttons!
Year 1 has begun exploring the book Biscuit Bear in English. They have looked at the features needed for instructions and will be writing their own instructions ‘How to make biscuits’. To generate some adjectives, the children tasted a variety of biscuits which were yummy, crumbly, tasty, delicious, crunchy and flavoursome! Great vocabulary Year 1!
In PSHE, we have started to look at stereotypes. We listened to some sentences, such as ‘all girls like pink’ and ‘all boys like football’, and decided whether we agreed, disagreed or weren’t sure about the statements by moving to the designated area. We followed this by seeing if we could guess who was who from their description. We realised that we couldn’t tell anything about anybody just from how they look.
In geography, Year 3 have been learning more about the 4 countries that make up the United Kingdom, including their capital and other major cities. They worked in groups to complete a matching activity before finding different cities using atlases.
This week, Year 4 embarked on a vibrant exploration of Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights. The children delved into the legendary story of Rama and Sita, discovering how their tale inspires the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. To reflect this theme, they creatively designed and made their own beautiful lanterns, which provided a wonderful moment for them to consider the positive light and good they bring to the world.
This week in DT, Year 5 have been investigating the strength of different types of Truss bridges. We found that the lattice truss design was the strongest. We will use this information to create our own design that we will make on DT day.
In Science Year 6 created classification keys to sort Liquorice Allsorts! They carefully observed the characteristics of the sweets, such as shape, appearance and texture, and then chose yes or no questions to help group them. Afterwards, they tested each other's keys to see if they worked. ‘It’s not every day learning (sorting sweets!) so it was quite exciting’ - Erin- 6JC
The Mental Health Support Team (MHST) is an early intervention and prevention service that helps children and young people aged 5 to 18 in Kingston and Richmond schools with mild to moderate mental health difficulties like anxiety, low mood, and common behavioural issues.
The team consists of psychological professionals, including clinical leads, creative therapists, mental health practitioners, and education wellbeing practitioners.
This is the full safeguarding team in school. They are all trained to Level 3 and everyone in the school received the annual update of Safeguarding Level 2 training at INSET. If you are worried about a child, please let one of the team know.
