Dear Parents and Carers,
As I write this newsletter, I can hear music playing and children laughing. It's Friends of Ellingham Spring Disco time!
I have to take my hat off to FOE because the organisation and quality of these discos is outstanding. From the DJ-ing to the stalls and the food, the discos for each age group have been truly excellent. The joy in the children's faces is great to see. They are literally sparkling! You are making memories for them - they won't forget these moments. Thank you, FOE, for this incredible organisation.
I also want to say a huge thank you to the staff team who have stayed to support. These events couldn't run without the commitment of the staff. Thank you, Team Ellingham, for all that you do for the children.
Time for a boogie! Have a wonderful weekend, all.
Best wishes,
Margaret

Ofsted is telling us our attendance needs attention. Our whole school average attendance percentange is currently 93.4%. This places us low down nationally compared to other schools. As you can in the class attendance figures below, some classes are lower than this. Of course children have been unwell, and it is equally important that they stay at home to recover. But we have been working with you to find barriers to attendance, and I am grateful for the time families have spent with us.
This week we have been making Easter Music Shakers, the children chose what they were going to fill their shaker with- rice or seeds and then counted out 3 spoonfuls before sealing them. The children can now use them when singing their songs.
This week we have been looking at maps and learning about countries from around the world. We had a visit from Sophia’s mum to tell us all about life in South Africa and then Sebas’s mum to tell us about life in Bolivia. The children were fascinated and we learnt lots of interesting facts about these amazing countries!
Systematic Superstars!
This week, Maple Class have been hard at work learning their odd and even numbers and partitioning numbers in different ways. The children used excellent teamwork skills and worked systematically to find all the ways of making 7, 8 and 9.
This week Oak Class (Year 2) learned all about the easter story in RE. We acted out the events of Holy Week from Maundy Thursday to Easter Sunday. The class enjoyed getting to role play as the different people involved in the Easter Story and learning about the resurrection of Jesus. Oak Class asked lots of great questions and showed the Ellingham expectation of respect throughout the whole RE lesson.
3BP have been busy learning about the artist Matisse, and this week used his work as their inspiration as they produced some stunning cut out pictures. . After refreshing their knowledge of the colour wheel they made excellent use of complementary colours so that their pictures were vibrant and eye-catching.
There was a mystery in Year 4 this week: where did the water go? Our budding scientists launched a full-scale investigation into the power of evaporation. By setting up a series of experiments, the children tested exactly how temperature affects the speed of evaporation. After an afternoon of careful observations and data tracking, the classrooms transformed into a film studio! The children filmed their own 'Science Hack' videos, mimicking their favourite YouTubers to explain their results and see if their initial predictions were correct.
Who’s got talent? Year 5’s got talent! This week, our hall was transformed into a galaxy far, far away as Year 5 performed their incredible assembly. We were blown away by their facts, costumes and amazing confidence on stage. We’d like to send a huge thank you to all the parents and carers who helped with costumes and learning lines —we couldn't have done it without you. Well done, Year 5!
This week we have been focusing on using speech punctuation correctly and have been continuing to look at our class book- There’s a Boy in the Girl’s Bathroom by Louis Sachar. Next week we will be writing the next chapter so this week we carried out some drama - thinking about what the characters might be saying in the next chapter. We used the skills we have learnt throughout the week. We can't wait to write creatively next week.
This week our value was Friendship.
This is the full safeguarding team in school. They are all trained to Level 3 and everyone in the school received the annual update of Safeguarding Level 2 training at INSET. If you are worried about a child, please let one of the team know.
