Dear Parents and Carers,
Happy Numbers Day! What a wonderful Friday it has been, celebrating all things Maths. We have enjoyed a wonderful day of exploring numbers, and mathematical concepts more generally, in different ways, including class swaps and making music! Thank you for taking the time to help your children dress up for the event.
I was absolutely blown away by Year 2's class assembly today on the natural world. Every child's oracy skills in narrating a complex assembly, using intonation to enunciate complex sentences clearly, and expression to give life to their words, was incredibly impressive. These young learners should be extremely proud of their performance. The volume of knowledge they displayed was also astounding, and is a testament to the expertise of our teaching team. Thank you to them for all their enduring hard work.
Today we hosted a coffee morning on Online Safety. This is an extremely important topic, and we would love to welcome more of you to these invaluable events that empower you with key knowledge and skills.
We would like to welcome Miss Sarah Dilamore to Year 2. She is student teacher on her final placement and has had a wonderful first few days getting to know your children. She will be with us until the end of June.
Finally, I want to thank you for your patience with the issues we've had accessing our website on your phones. It was connected to an update which impacted our security settings. It is all now resolved.
Next week is Children's Mental Health Week. There are lots of activities based around the theme of Belonging! Watch this space!
Take care, all of you, and have a wonderful weekend.
With best wishes,
Margaret

We are excited to be hosting a leading athlete on Wednesday 25th February. The children will be having an assembly about this on Monday. Please look out for further information which will be sent out on Monday.
Here are some photos from the day.
This week, Year 4 are bringing home ingredient boxes to cook a classic Macaroni Cheese. We’ve included the recipe below so the rest of our school community can join in the fun and try it at home too!
Congratulations to 5S for their excellent attendance this week.
Well done also to 6JC & 4G who reached our attendance goal.
Ellingham term dates for next academic year are now available under the heading "About Us". Please do look at this when planning your vacations. Holidays taken in term time cannot be authorised and may incur a fine. Please refer to our 'Attendance Policy' on the Policies page for more information.
"The Department for Education (DfE) states that holidays during term time are not permitted and can lead to fines or legal action." [page 9, Attendance Policy 2025-26]
Year 1 have learned about Florence Joyner in English this week. She was an olympic runner who won silver and gold medals as well as a world record for the 100m sprint. The children in Year 1 ran as fast as they could to try and beat her record but Florence Joyner is still the fastest woman in the world!
Things got very chilly in Oak Class this week as the children used mixed media to turn their line drawings into beautiful ‘Frozen Planet’ pictures by painting a background wash and adding their own special effects. Later in the week they performed their ‘Frozen Planet’ assembly to children, teachers and parents. We were so impressed with their clear delivery and beautiful singing.
On Thursday, Year 3 travelled up to London to visit the British Museum. They were very excited to see the mummies and sarcophaguses as we explored the Egyptian exhibits. Thank you to the parents who helped us on this trip!
Look out for the photos in next weeks newsletter.
Year 4 hit all the right notes this week as we celebrated Number Day! We swapped our usual uniforms for some fantastic digit-themed outfits and dove headfirst into the world of musical patterns.
Our highlight was exploring the Pythagorean approach to sound. By adding precise measurements of water to glass bottles, we transformed our classroom into a laboratory of scales. We discovered that the more water a bottle holds, the lower the pitch. This is because there is less space for air to vibrate! It was a brilliant, hands-on way to see—and hear—maths in action. We are extremely proud of the courageous Emira and Molly who represented Year 4 in the whole school Times Table Rock Stars Battle.
This week, Year 5 stepped back in time for an unforgettable Mayan Discovery Day, immersing themselves in the vibrant and mysterious traditions of this ancient civilization. The classroom transformed into a creative workshop as the children crafted intricate death masks, using bold patterns and textures to honor the Mayan belief in the journey to the afterlife. The energy shifted to the "court" as they mastered the rules of Pok-ta-pok, the legendary ball game where skill and teamwork were once a matter of life and death. They could only use their knees, elbows, heads and tummies to pass the ball to their teammates. To round off the sensory experience, the children channeled their inner chocolatiers to create decadent chocolate truffles, discovering firsthand why the Maya revered cacao as a "gift from the gods."
Year 6 really enjoyed Number Day today. We thought about jobs that involve maths- in the form of a team quiz- and realised there were an abundance of professions that do! We then swapped with some of Year 5 to complete a ‘Who wants to be a Mathionaire’ game. In the afternoon we thought about budgeting and planned how we would save for the future. A highlight was seeing Anointy and Kingstine compete for Year 6 in the whole school TTRS battle. Take a look at some of our number themed outfits…
Congratulations to the following children on achieving the certificate for our value of Courage this week. We decided to continue this value for a second week, particularly recognising the stamina of our Year 6 pupils conducting their mock Sats all week. Well done, Year 6!
Save the date:
Friday March 20th - We will be having a Spring Disco for children. Further information to follow.
We are looking forward to our Love Ellingham sale which has been a very popular event in previous years. We've got some lovely items for sale but we need some more volunteers to come along and help on the day.
If you can spare half an hour next Friday afternoon please contact Friends of Ellingham email: friendsofellingham@outlook.com or contact the school office.
We can only run these events if we have the support of volunteers - Thank you in advance.
FOE Committee members.
Next week, Ellingham will be taking part in lots of activities centred on the very important topic of children's mental health. The theme this year is, "This is my place". We'll be talking about how we can help everyone feel like they belong.
As part of our activities, every day will have a 'Special Experience'. On Wednesday 11th February, the special experience will be, "Bizzare do, be you", and this entails every member of the Ellingham Family coming to school with their hair styled in their own unique way! An important part of Belonging is knowing how our unique selves add to our community. We want to show this through our hair! So, have a think over the weekend of how you can "bizzare you, be do"!
This is the full safeguarding team in school. They are all trained to Level 3 and everyone in the school received the annual update of Safeguarding Level 2 training at INSET. If you are worried about a child, please let one of the team know.
