Dear Parents and carers,
We have reached the middle of June, and what an action-packed week it has been across the school!
Kingsmeadow was alive with music and moving feet this week as Miss Peart's Dance Club took part in the Country Dance Festival. The coordination, teamwork, and—most importantly—the massive smiles on their dancers' faces made it a morning to remember. Thank you to all the parents who helped and joined in!
On Wednesday, our Year 4 and Year 5 classes were invited to Chessington School for a spectacular student production of Shrek. Our pupils were an absolute credit to us, walking over beautifully and showing impeccable audience manners. And the musical excitement didn't stop there as Year 4 pupils took to the grand stage at The Rose Theatre in Kingston for a special singing festival. Performing in front of a packed auditorium can be daunting, but our children sang with absolute confidence, perfect pitch, and immense joy.
Heat weather warning
As you know, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and the Met Office have issued an Amber Heat Health Alert for London. As a school, we are modifying our daily routines to keep children safe, including limiting strenuous physical activity, maximizing time spent in the shade during break times under gazebos and encouraging the children to drink more water than usual.
In addition, wear sunhats with wide brims to avoid sunburn. Apply sunblock or broad-band sunscreens with high sun protection factors (of at least SPF 30 and ultraviolet A (UVA) rating of 4 or more stars) to protect skin.
Thank you for your swift cooperation in helping us navigate this heatwave safely. We hope you all enjoy a restful, safe, and beautifully sunny weekend!
Best wishes,
Margaret

Congratulations to Oak class who had the highest class attendance again this week.
Well done to this week’s winners 3BP with 5CS and 4RS in 2nd and 3rd place!
Our top 3 players this week are Elodie, Tosia and Imogen, well done girls!
This week’s battle is Boys vs Girls so make sure you take part to help out your team!
This week, we repeated the value of Inspiration as we began our focus on the World Cup!
Miss Peart took the Dance Club to Kingsmeadow this week to take part in the Kingston primary schools’ Country Dance Festival. The children had learnt 6 different traditional dances and enjoyed performing them alongside over 20 other schools. The sun was shining as they galloped and do-si-doed with their partner and the parents and carers even had a turn of The Circassian Circle!
If you can help at the Summer Fair email: friendsofellingham@outlook.com or contact the school office.
We can only run these events if we have the support of volunteers - Thank you in advance.
FOE Committee members
We are still collecting empty jars. There will be a crate in the main reception for these to be left. Thank you in advance.
This week, Reception have been busy designing and making boats from tin foil and recycled plastic bottles. They enjoyed testing how many passenger bears their boats could carry before sinking and comparing their ideas. Some children were particularly interested in making submarines and had to think carefully about how they could get their boats to sink, eventually deciding to use stones. The children showed great curiosity and perseverance as they explored and tested their ideas.
Year 1 continued exploring the weather in geography this week by checking the weather forecast for Chessington and comparing it to other places in the UK. The children then listened to the story ‘It Looked Like Spilt Milk’ all about fun cloud shapes and got creative with a collaborative piece of cloud art.
On Tuesday, Oak Class paid a visit to Hook Library. We spent some time looking at all the books (as well as colouring and playing with the toys!) and then Fran from the library came and told us all about the Summer Reading challenge. She also read us a couple of stories, which we really enjoyed. It was a lovely afternoon!
Year 3 thoroughly enjoyed their first coding lessons using Micro:bits in computing. Working in pairs, they explored the programming environment (similar to the Scratch software they have used before) and different basic coding blocks.
This week, Year 4 proudly represented our school at the Rose Theatre for the Kingston Music Service - Primary Singing Festival. After months of hard work and dedication, they sang their hearts out and performed with incredible conviction, absolutely wowing the audience! A huge thank you to all the parents and carers who came along to watch and support us on the day. Your encouragement meant the world to the children.
You rocked it, Team Year 4!
This is the full safeguarding team in school. They are all trained to Level 3 and everyone in the school received the annual update of Safeguarding Level 2 training at INSET. If you are worried about a child, please let one of the team know.
