Dear Parents and carers,
I cannot believe we are at the end of this half term already! There have been so many trips, experiences, Wow moments and so much mastery learning in just six weeks, it makes me a little dizzy!
We've also had our Year 6 pupils expertly navigate their SATs tests this term, our Year 1 pupils practise and revise their decoding skills in preparation for the Phonics Screening check, and our Year 4 pupils conduct daily practise in preparation for the Multiplication Times Table check, both happening in June. Well done to all the pupils for their concentration and commitment to this daily practice, and thank you to the staff for ensuring all our learners are the most prepared they can be for these checks.
This week, children and staff enjoyed Wellbeing Day on Thursday. And today, we welcomed back our absolute heroes: Ellingham's Chelsea FC Primary Stars football team!
I am still blown away by their achievement. To win the tournament in London that secured Ellingham's place as the Chelsea team was huge in itself. But to reach the FINAL in tournament is absolutely phenomenal. Standing in the corridor on Thursday afternoon with the front office team, first squealing with delight when we heard the team had reached the final, then staring at the phone waiting for the call to hear the result, will be one of my dearest memories of the year so far.
Boys, you are the embodiment of all Ellingham's values: Determination, Courage, Inspiration, Excellence, Equality, Friendship, and huge huge Respect. We couldn't be prouder!
I also want to say a huge thank you to our incredible sports' coaches. They work tirelessly to build the skills and attitudes children need to navigate the highs and lows of sport. Their expertise is evident in Ellingham's success. Thank you, BeSports, for your dedication.
I wish you all a wonderful weekend and half term.
Best wishes,
Margaret

Children should dismount from their bikes when on school grounds and walk their bikes to the rack.
Dogs are not permitted on school grounds.
Please can our KS2 children be provided with a healthy snack for break time, as some of our hungry older children ate the fruit provided for our younger children before the latter had had any themselves. Thank you for your understanding.
What an incredible week for our football team! A group of our talented Year 5 and 6 boys travelled to Wolverhampton to represent Chelsea FC in the prestigious Premier League Primary Stars tournament. The boys played some exceptional football throughout the competition, showcasing brilliant teamwork and determination to make it all the way to the grand final! While it ended in the cruelest of ways—a heartbreaking penalty shootout defeat—they returned home with their heads held high. To be able to call ourselves the second-best team in the entire country is a phenomenal achievement. We are immensely proud of you all!
You don't need a themed week to have a Wellbeing Day!
As the summer weather seems to have finally arrived, we celebrated some fantastic attendance this week with Ice Pop Friday! These children have had 100% attendance since September! An amazing achievement - well done!
Congratulations to 4RS for 100% attendance this week with Oak class class close behind with 97.3%.
TTRS Battle Results!
A big shout out to 4G, 4RS and 5S for coming out on top for this week’s battle.
Well done to Eden, Olivia M, and Emira for coming in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place out of the whole school.
Over half term there will be a whole school TTRS showdown so make sure you take part to help out your class and to practice your recall.
If you're looking for dinner inspiration, look no further. See this weeks Brite Box recipes. Moroccan Veggieballs or Moroccan Meatballs with Couscous.
And for dessert? There is a quick and easy recipe for crispy, golden Oat Cookies that the children will love helping to mix, shape, and bake!
If you can help at the Summer Fair email: friendsofellingham@outlook.com or contact the school office.
We can only run these events if we have the support of volunteers - Thank you in advance.

We had a wonderful Teddy Bear’s Picnic in nursery this week. Thank you to all the parents who joined us for activities, stories, singing and especially cake.
Cherry Class have had a fantastic week learning the story of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. They have been using beans to learn about capacity, measuring and pouring ‘milk’, and creating beautiful collage beanstalks.
Year 1 were given a shock on Monday when they arrived to a trashed classroom; tables had been flipped over, chairs knocked down and resources were a mess! A red dragon from our English story had been spotted around the school so the children created warning posters for other classes and made sure everyone knew what to keep an eye out for. They went on to set a trap to catch the dragon but were surprised to find out he had overheard their plan so left Chip in his place with a note saying he had gone back to his cave. Keep your eyes peeled though because he might come back and is very dangerous!
In science, Year 2 have been learning all about plants. This week we looked at different types of seed dispersal, such as water, wind, animal and explosion. We then watched a clip about maple seed dispersal and made our own ‘helicopter seeds’ to see how this worked.
In English, Year 3 have been creating their own informative posters about climate change independently. Throughout the week, they drafted paragraphs on how humans contribute to the problem and what can be done to reduce the impact. Finally, they published their work in their neatest handwriting.
This week, our Year 4 scientists and geographers took their learning out of the classroom and into the real world to discover how sound influences the big decisions made by town planners. Armed with decibel readers, they measured the sound levels of different zones, hunting for the quietest spots. Their mission? To decide exactly where to plant more trees to create a peaceful sanctuary that will attract more wildlife to the area.
Our Year 5s have had an absolute blast this week mixing art with some seriously messy science! The kids rolled up their sleeves and got stuck into designing and building their very own volcanoes using heaps of paper-mâché and bright paint. But the best part? Taking them outside for the grand finale! Armed with bottles of Coke and packets of Mentos, they triggered some epic, fizzing eruptions right out of their handmade craters. There were tons of laughs, plenty of cheers, and a few wild splashes. It was the perfect way to learn about science and design hands-on—and honestly, who doesn't love making a bit of a mess for schoolwork?
This is the full safeguarding team in school. They are all trained to Level 3 and everyone in the school received the annual update of Safeguarding Level 2 training at INSET. If you are worried about a child, please let one of the team know.
