ELLINGHAM SCHOOL NEWS
FIND OUT WHAT'S HAPPENING IN YOUR CHILD'S YEAR GROUP?
Parents and carers of Year 1 to Year 6 children, please come along to one of our Curriculum Events on Wednesday 27th September 2023 either 9am or 5.30pm to find out more about your child's curriculum this year. You can attend both sessions if you need to cover different year groups.
Meet in the hall after drop off for the morning session and grab a tea or coffee. Mrs Keogh and the teachers will be in the hall to welcome you and share our aims for this year and then into classrooms to hear about the specifics of your child's year group.
A key focus is Reading for Pleasure. As part of this, please stay until the end of the session to read with your child in their classroom. We'd love you to bring in your family's favourite story to read or you can choose one from the wide range of books available in classrooms. The children will be so excited to show you their classroom, share a story together and introduce you to their teacher.
Click the RSVP link here, to let us know which session you would prefer so that we can ensure that we have everything in place for you.
Reminders
UNIFORMS: Please ensure all uniform and items are clearly named so that items can be returned to children. We already have a box full of unnamed sweatshirts.
WATER BOTTLES: Children need water bottles throughout the day. Please ensure that they have a named bottle in school.
MEDICINES: Please ensure that if your child needs medicine, it is brought into school along with completed medical forms.
Early bird interventions
Early bird interventions start next week (Monday 18th September) for invited children. Please ensure children are in school by 8:15am so that they have maximum learning time.
Is your child up to date with their childhood immunisations?
Public Health has advised that cases of measles have been rising in England due to low MMR vaccination rates. MMR vaccination helps protect against measles infection. Recent UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) research suggests London could be facing a major measles outbreak unless MMR vaccination rates improve.
Public Health advise that the best way to make sure your child is protected against measles is to ensure they have received 2 doses of the MMR vaccine that protects against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR).
If you are not sure if your child has had MMR or any of other routine childhood vaccinations, please check their Red Book or contact your GP surgery. Routine vaccinations are free and an appointment can be made with your GP to catch up on any that have been missed. LEARNING TOGETHER
Reading for Pleasure Across the School
The children have been busy reading this week and all year groups have loved using the library during lunchtimes to share books and talk about their reading. We asked some of our children what they thought of reading. Here's what they said:
"I love reading because it is nice and calm!" Hallie (Year 1)
No words needed!
"You can find out new vocabulary and then use it in your writing." Leo (Year 6)
"You can imagine what is happening in your head and build a picture." Srideep (Year 6)
"I love most of the different genres but my favourite is mystery because it's thrilling and there are different plot twists to keep you reading more" Charlie (Year 6)
Welcome Reception Superstars
Our Reception children have had a wonderful first week in school, settling into Reception and already learning lots. It has been a pleasure to see them exploring their new learning environment and making friends.
The lunch hall has been calm whilst they develop their independence and they have demonstrated excellent listening skills throughout the week- we are so proud of them all.

Nursery Having Fun
Shaping Up Well in Year 1
Year 1 had fun sorting shapes in their Maths lesson.
Living or non-living Investigation in Y2?
Year 2 learnt how to identify living things in Science this week by learning the seven life processes. The children explored the playground to find living and non-living things. Can you find something living?
Y6 Drama
Year 6 have enjoyed reading our new English text 'Street Child.' They loved creating freeze frames to explore a key moment from the text, considering how the characters were feeling.
SAFEGUARDING AND SUPPORT
Hello Everyone,
I am Jacqui Malherbe and I am the new Pupil/Parent Support Worker and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead here at Ellingham Primary School. Some of you will already know me, as I have moved across from Chessington School and live locally in Chessington.
I am passionate about supporting our children and families - from helping manage anxieties, friendship issues and significant life events. I work with Kingston's Mental Health Support Team and will highlight events that I think would be helpful to you, such as the Helping Children with... series of webinars.
Making sure all children are safe in school is key and I will do regular updates on what's new in safeguarding. This week, we are ensuring that you know who is on the safeguarding team.
I am excited to get to know you all, whether it’s a quick hello at the gate or a catch up in the school. Please feel free to contact me on pupilsupport@elp.rbksch.org
This is the full safeguarding team in school. They are all trained to Level 3 and everyone in the school received the annual update of Safeguarding Level 2 training at INSET.
Contact details: 020 8397 3864 or email: office@elp.rbksch.org to request a safeguarding call back. For pupil support, contact 020 8397 3864 or email: pupilsupport@elp.rbksch.org
