When the temperature tips the high 20s or 30s, Mrs Keogh reaches for the hose to cool the children down with a summer soaking. This is an annual event but we've had to wait some time for summer to arrive this year. The children love it and it adds such fun to the end of term.
Your children work so hard and any visitor to the school comments on the great behaviour for learning. What they don't always see is your children's capacity for joy and laughter. It's an essential part of primary school life and we look forward to more of it next year.
Last week, the children celebrated cultural week, swapping classes to learn about Romania, Sri Lanka and Portugal, countries representing some of the languages spoken in school. Southborough School came in and taught some Spanish to the whole school, some families came in to talk about their culture and we enjoyed French breakfast together on Thursday 11th July. On Thursday afternoon, children watched a film in a different language (with English subtitles) to see how it feels to be in an environment where English is not being spoken. They could work out some of the story!
Nursery children had fun competing in their sports morning. There was lots of fun and laughter and much bemusement watching the children meander from lane to lane!
Year 2 enjoyed a trip to the beach today as they ventures to Littlehampton. In history they have been learning about how and why seaside holidays became popular so were all very excited to go on their own coastal jolly!
The children visited the RNLI station where they heard all about the courageous work the volunteers do there and learnt about the different safety flags to look out for at the beach. They then enjoyed lunch on the beach before a yummy ice cream and time to build sandcastles and find shells.
Year 4 stunned the school with their fantastic costumes to celebrate all things Ancient Greece. They stood up in assembly to give everyone a twirl and show off their outfits.
Year 6 went over to St Mary's for a friendly game of rounders. Ellingham won by one rounder!
Year 6 delighted parents, children and staff alike with their wonderful production of Wonderland, telling the story of several Alices!
Reception were so inspired that after the final performance, they took the props and re-enacted the play in their classroom, including the Caucas Race.
This is the full safeguarding team in school. They are all trained to Level 3 and everyone in the school received the annual update of Safeguarding Level 2 training at INSET.
