ELLINGHAM SCHOOL NEWS
🎄Christmas Special 🎄
🎄Nursery - Counting down to Christmas
Nursery have been getting ready for Christmas. They have been busy making decorations and painting pictures of Santa. This week they also did some Christmas singing, they did so well in learning all the songs and performed them with confidence to the parents.
They have been counting down the days to Christmas by using their advent tree, each morning one of the children will find the number and turn it over to see the picture. They then count down how many days are left.
🎄A Little Bird Told Me! - Reception and KS1 Performance
WOW! What a performance by Reception and Key Stage One this week. The children performed their nativity after weeks of rehearsals and hard work learning lines, songs and dances. The children looked fantastic in their costumes and did their teacher's proud!
🎄Joys of Christmas Carolling
Reception, Year 1 and 2 Carol
Year 3 and 4 Carol
Year 5 and 6 Carol
🎄Santa Claus Surprise Visit
All the children were delighted to return to their classrooms from the whole school carol concert to find Santa close behind them with a sack full of goodies for each class.
Thank you to the Rotary Club for getting in contact with Father Christmas to visit our school.
🎄All the fun of the Christmas Fair
Thank you to the Friends of Ellingham for organising a Christmas fair for the children. They had lots of fun playing games on stalls, visiting the tombolas and winning prizes of lollies, chocolate, sweets and pens.
Thank you to all our families for their support in buying tickets and also to the volunteers who came in to run the stalls. It is much appreciated.
🧑🎄Choir tour continues
This week the choir entertained the customers and visitors to the Santa Grotto at Chessington Garden Centre and sang beautifully to the residents of The Royal Star & Garter home in Surbiton.
🎄Deck the halls with boughs of holly...
Our school is looking very festive this week with each class making a Christmas hoop displayed in the corridors, decorations in the classrooms and trees in our foyer and hall.
🎄Year 2 making the decorations for their Christmas Hoop & decorating their trees
🎄Reception Bethlehem and Santa's Grotto
Take a peep at Reception's Bethlehem, where the children have been able to dress up as the Bible characters and use books to help retell the story of the Birth of Jesus. The children have been equally busy visiting Santa's Grotto to write lists and send cards to friends and family.
🎄Year 1 Spreading the Christmas spirit
Year 1 went to the Amy Woodgate Care Home to spread the Christmas spirit. They delivered their Christmas cards to the residents and finished by singing Santa Claus is coming to town.
🎄Year 5 Peter Pan at The Rose Theatre
Yesterday, Year 5 ventured to the Rose Theatre to watch a Christmas production of Peter Pan. We thoroughly enjoyed the show, especially the snow at the end! Our teachers were very proud of our behaviour too.
We would like to thank all our parent helpers too - without them we couldn't have gone.
Year 5 Children
🎄Antler Alert!
Year 2 have now completed 6 miles of their Reindeer Run and have enjoyed building their fitness levels. The classes have ran a mile each day and, with 18 miles left, look forward to a challenge of 2 miles a day next week! Wish them luck and show your support by sponsoring them to raise money for the RNLI.
LEARNING TOGETHER
Parent Helpers: reading volunteers needed!
We are looking for reading volunteers to help promote Reading for Pleasure across the school. If you think you would be able to help, please email the school office to express an interest. Thank you in advance- your support makes a huge difference.
Parent Helpers: maths volunteers needed!
Year 2 Read all about it!
Year 2 recently wrote news reports about their time-travelling experience back to 1666. They enjoyed becoming reporters, editors and publishers as they created their own newspaper The School Scoop and delivered a copy to each classroom for their book corners.
The teachers and children were all very impressed and can't wait to read the Year 2 news!
Year 3 Football Success
Well done to our Year 3 football team who took part in a tournament at Richmond & Kew Football Club. They got all the way to the final only losing on penalties. They came second in the Borough.
Year 6 Scientists
Year 6 have discovered some incredible new creatures within the Animalia Kingdom! Did you know that when a new species of animal is discovered, taxonomists have to observe its characteristics to decide how to classify it?
Year 6 used their imaginations and scientific knowledge to consider the classification of their creature, including characteristics, diet, appearance and habitat. They also came up with some fantastic 'latinised' names, just like Carl Linnaeus.
Take a look at their amazing creations!
SAFEGUARDING, HEALTH AND SUPPORT
Year 6 Wellbeing Ambassadors take over Assembly
Year 6 Wellbeing Ambassadors led an exciting Wellbeing Assembly on Mental Health. They carefully planned a ‘Grounding’ activity as a warm up, led a Mental Health Quiz and ended with some thought-provoking quotes.
As part of the assembly, children were asked about their happy places.
Children shared their ideas:
‘My happy place is school because I love being with my friends.
‘My home is my happy place.’
‘The beach is my happy place because it is beautiful and calm.’
