ELLINGHAM SCHOOL NEWS

Summer Fair Fun

It was wonderful to see so many of you at the the summer fair last weekend.  We got so lucky with the weather - a glorious sunny day!

Our choir and dance club delighted the audience with a superb performance and we also had the opportunity to watch some lovely singing from Chessington school and a martial arts performance.

Children were giddy with the excitement of inflatables, knock down teachers and hook a duck (or maybe it was the sugar from the delicious sweets).

Thank you so much to all of the parents and teachers who helped set up, clear up and man stalls all day.

Dance Club Performance

Dance Club enjoyed a rehearsal outside this week as Drama Club were performing in the hall. The children enjoyed practicing their dances and their own choreography ready for their final session on Tuesday 9th July where parents and carers are welcome to come and watch from 4 o'clock. They look forward to showing you all they have learnt!

International and Cultural Week - 8th July

Next week, the children will be 'visiting' different countries around the world.  Each class will be set up as a country and the children will learn some of the language and customs, read a book, learn a song or dance or, maybe, make some food.

As part of this, don't forget that Thursday is French Breakfast.  Children should have arrived home with a request to bring along a specific item for the breakfast menu.  This request is to avoid us drowning in too much jam or being buried under too many croissants.

Thank you to those parents who have volunteered to come in to share a traditional tale from your country or some facts about your culture.  If you would like to participate, please let us know - office@elp.rbksch.orgThe children will love it.

Year 6 Rehearsals underway

Year 6 are busy rehearsing for their performance of 'Wonderland'.

Please see the email sent out this week with more details. The production is on Tuesday 16th July (Matinee) and Wednesday 17th July (evening - adults only)

Year 1 - Natural History Museum

Year 1 went on a a trip to the Natural History Museum.  We got on two trains from Chessington South all the way to South Kensington. At the museum, we had a workshop on Mini beasts where we learnt about the different habitats. It was a very fun day and for some of us it was the first time on a train!

Year 2 Stained Glass Windows

Year 2 have been learning all about different religious symbols and what you might find in different places of worship. They even had a go at creating their own stained glass windows!

Year 4 Hook Church

Year 4 have been looking at the celebrations that are important in many of the world religions.  We were invited to attend a Christian Wedding Ceremony at Hook Evangelist Church.  We would like to thank Hook Church, Paul Pease and his family for making us feel so welcome, the children had a wonderful morning.

Year 5 Hampton Court

Yesterday, Year 5 took a trip to Hampton Court Palace to learn more about our Tudor topic. We saw Henry VIII's apartments, including the Great Hall and we even saw his crown. We all had a great day and enjoyed the sunshine in the gardens before returning back to school.

It was an exciting visit to see such a historical palace. Alex 5S

It was a really nice experience. My favourite bit was sitting in the gardens, they were beautiful. Ola 5S

It held a lot of history. My favourite part was seeing how respected it was and how precious some of the artefacts were. Oliver S 5C
