Dear Parents,
What another wonderful week we have had here at Ellingham.
At the beginning of the week, our Year 6 ambassadors had their first chance to orate a speech to prospective parents. Each year, we invite families looking for a school for their child the following September to come and visit Ellingham. Four Year 6 ambassadors write and deliver their own speech about the school, giving an insight only they can provide.
Last year, propsective parents were in awe at the confident speaking, warm anecdotes, and welcoming nature of these pupils. Many parents said our tour was the best they had attended, and often our Year 6 pupils were the reason why. This year, our Year 6 pupils impressed just as much, both in their speeches, their warm manner and in their tours. Thank you to these pupils for their consientious speeches, and to you at home for helping them. If you know any families looking for a rececption place in September 2027, they can email the office to arrange a tour at any time.
On Monday and Wednesday, we had our annual Teddy Bear's Picnic with the wonderful children from Piglet's nursery. It is such a pleasure to welcome them to Ellingham. The children are always so polite and respectful - they are ambassadors of Piglets in their own right!
Finally, on Friday we held our Harvest Festival assembly. Thank you for all your donations.
Warm regards,
Margaret

Well done to both Year 5 classes who achieved an excelllent attendance of 98.9% this week.
Please remember that holidays are not permitted at all during term time. Just 9 school days off in a year puts a child in the 'at risk' catergogy. Nine school days is two units of learning in maths and an entire writing outcome. It could include an important sporting tournament, an educational visit or vital PSHE learning that empowers pupils in their undertanding. Please understand that children are behind in their learning when they return from a holiday and this impacts not only on their knowledge, skills but also on their confidenece.
We are delighted to share that our Nursery pupils have been joyfully engaging with musical instruments and exploring the world of sound! Through hands-on activities, they discovered how different instruments such as drums create unique tones, rhythms and melodies. This not only sparks creativity but also helps the pupils to develop important skills such as listening, coordination and self-expression.
Music is more than notes, it is a language of joy, imagination and connection and this was seen through the pupil’s curiosity, enthusiasm and engagement.
Reception have been busy learning all about their skeletons this week! Inspired by the story Funnybones, the children created some fantastic skeleton pictures of their own. We had dancing skeletons, spooky spiders and even skeleton snakes! The children had great fun getting creative whilst thinking about the bones inside our bodies.
Year 1 have been practising counting to 100 this week. The children have worked hard to spot patterns on a hundred square that will help us when working with higher numbers and completed a race to 100 in pairs.
In Maths, Year 2 have been looking at numbers to 100. We started with multiples of 10 and are now using these to place other 2 digit numbers on a numberline. We drew our own numberlines and our partner told us numbers to find!
This week, Year 3 stepped back into the Stone Age to bring their history learning to life. The children arrived at school dressed in fantastic costumes, ready for a full day of immersive activities.
The day began with an energetic drum circle, giving the children a taste of ancient life and community. Working in "tribes," they then headed outside for a hunter-gatherer scavenger hunt. After break, the children used pastels to create atmospheric cave art to great effect.
In the afternoon, they collaborated in groups to build miniature Stone Age shelters before finishing the day by carving weapons and jewellery out of soap. It was a memorable and hands-on experience for everyone involved!
This term, Year 4 have been hard at work practising their times tables, with a focus on mastering the 2, 5 and 3 times tables! In class, we use Times Table Rock Stars once a week—an amazing, free resource that the children love that they should be using at home too.
To boost their recall and confidence, we ask that children practise at home for just 5 minutes, 3 times a week. Thank you for your continued support!
What a fantastic day Year 6 had stepping back in time for our Victorian School Day!
The children fully immersed themselves in 19th-century school life—practising their handwriting on slate chalkboards, chanting times tables in unison, and following strict Victorian school rules. The year group split for traditional tasks, with the girls working on intricate sewing skills while the boys tackled technical drawing, before everyone took part in a classic Victorian 'drill' fitness session.
To round off our Victorian exploration, the children got creative by designing intricate patterns inspired by famous artist William Morris, and crafting their very own thaumatropes—an early Victorian optical toy that brings drawings to life!
It was a brilliant hands-on history experience, and despite the strict classroom rules, everyone had an absolute blast!
Tickets are available now for the Spooky Disco via the Arbor app.
Primary Mental Health Conference 2026
On Wednesday 7th October, Mrs Sephton and the Year 6 Wellbeing Ambassadors headed off to Southborough School to take part in the Primary Mental Health Conference. The morning involved lots of fun activities including, the hoop game, kindness game and completing an action plan. The Year 6 ambassadors are planning to lead a wellbeing assembly and creating a mental health toolkit for our playground! The ambassadors were superb company and were a real credit to Ellingham.
This is the full safeguarding team in school. They are all trained to Level 3 and everyone in the school received the annual update of Safeguarding Level 2 training at INSET. If you are worried about a child, please let one of the team know.
