Last Friday's Spooky Disco was a fantastic success with so many Ellingham children really getting into the ghostly groove. Thank you so much to Friends of Ellingham (FOE) for all of the effort they put into organising and running this event.
We wouldn't be able to create wonderful events for children without parent and family support. Please do volunteer. Tomorrow, Wednesday 19th October, is the FOE AGM. Come along at 9am if you are available.

This Wednesday the 19th October, in aid of Walk to School Month, we are encouraging ALL children to walk, cycle or scoot to school. Even if you have to drive some of the way, why not park a little distance from school and then walk the final stretch? Every step counts!
On Wednesday, the class with the highest count of children who walk, cycle or scoot either all the way or part of the way will be rewarded with some extra playtime! And don't forget - these extra steps will equal extra Street Tag points! If you haven't signed up yet, use the link below to do so.
Our Read for Good Readathon will end on Monday 31st October which means we're on to the final fundraising push!
If you're visiting friends or family over half term, why not tell them all about the Read for Good charity and see if they would like to sponsor you to read and raise money for this fantastic cause. All money raised will help to provide a regular supply of brand new books and a resident storyteller to every major children’s hospital in the UK so please do encourage friends and family to support your children through sponsorship.

We've raised £255 so far.
This week in the run up to half term, we would appreciate any donations of non-perishable food items for our harvest collection. We will share these donations between our local foodbank, our on-site food collection and Smiles2smiles who are collecting donations for their Christmas hampers, which they distribute to needy families in the local area.
If you could possibly donate, we would very much appreciate non-perishable food items, biscuits, hats, scarves and gloves for all age groups and genders.
Thank you to everyone for your support.
Year 2 are enjoying working with Joe, a Lawn Tennis Association coach as part of the Ten Project. For children who show a natural talent for tennis, an enthusiasm or just want to do more, the Ten Project supports the children and also gets families involved at the weekend.
Year 2 children have written and illustrated created their own books designed to frighten readers - full of creepy forests and scary monsters.
We think these five children may be the authors of the future.
Year 3 have been diving into poetry and exploring vocabulary. They used Joseph Coelho's poem 'Golden Time' as inspiration to write their own favourite subject poems.
In Geography, Year 3 have been exploring the UK. They used non-fiction texts to research our county Greater London and used their facts to create fact files.
Then the children used the internet to explore human and physical features of both London and Edinburgh to compare and contrast the two capital cities.
This week, we had our DT day in Year 4. We have spent the last few weeks planning our money containers and practicing different stitching techniques including running stitch, backstitch and overstitch. We spent our DT day creating our money containers and evaluating them. I’m sure you can agree they are incredible!
A huge thank you to all of the amazing adults that came in to support our day. A special mention to Lyla who used to be a student at Ellingham and gave up her inset day to come and volunteer. It was a massive success because of all of your time.
Take a look at this amazing video full of geography facts filmed and presented by some Year 4 children.
Year 6 had a super day out travelling to visit the Tower of London. It was declared the best trip ever by some and we think it might have been the lure of the sparkling crown jewels!

Concern around the cost of living is affecting us all. The council has produced pages on the website to support any families that may need support during the difficult winter ahead. Advice on support with rising cost of living, finances, emergency food supplies, reducing energy and water costs, benefits, employment, mental health and wellbeing and specific pages for support for children and families. https://www.kingston.gov.uk/costoflivingsupport
Richmond Council’s Appeals Service is looking to recruit to its pool of volunteers who sit on panels that hear and make decisions on school admissions appeals lodged by applicants who have been unsuccessful in securing a place at their chosen school.
The panels consist of trained volunteers selected from a pool, and who are independent of local schools and, as such, volunteers will not be able to serve on any panels for schools they have a connection to e.g. where their child attends. The panels meet virtually, as and when necessary (but mainly in the summer term).
The Service is looking for panel members who are discreet, good at listening to both sides of an argument, and able to digest and analyse information in order to make a reasoned decision. Further information and an application form are available from: education.appeals@richmondandwandsworth.gov.uk or call 020 8891 7183 for a chat. Volunteers from underrepresented groups within the community are particularly encouraged to come forward.
